There are lots of rebuilt clutchless 4 and 5 speeds, so I'm starting to dig up info. This one is way out of my league, but a good video nonetheless.

"The tall shifter is for leverage". Sounds like the shifter is the clutch.

Apparently no clutch needed in these transmissions. See lots of rebuilt units for sale.

Here's another pricey one.

More info on the MTI. Clutch on downshift only. Out of my league dollar wise.

Here's the emco on a dyno.

Again, out of my price range.

What got me interested was a Tex 4 speed, bellhousing, clutch, and long shifter for $4000.

Here's a good view of how little the clutch is needed (sorry it's an import).

Haven't run mine yet - but...

I had a "Full-Manual/Reverse" kit put on my 200R4. Sorta-kinda will be a clutch-less manual - or a manual/non-automatic transmission. It is 1-4, and a straight line, not gated 4 etc.

On a side note (and why so little reported progress on Project Elvira), I added a Rev-limiter with a clutch sensor to the little non-Spec Racer. The sensor on the clutch acts a bit like the brake light switch, but the signal goes to the rev limiter, it wasted spark drops the revs and "Voilla" no-lift-shifts (up anyway). Was quite fun at Sebring during the Turkey Trot, but took a bit of concentrating to keep the accelerator floored. Not clutchless, but another interesting way to move through the gears.

Cheers - Jim

Interesting, yes, you are overdue for an update. ?

the only price I saw was 25k in the first post video. I suppose they are all around the same price ? even for a 4 speed ? Look like a fun set up for sure !

4 speeds with a long shifter seem to be plentiful for around $4000. But, I need to do a lot of digging as different brands have slightly different behavior (some require clutch on all downshift, etc. ).

And here 20 years ago, I thought a 5 speed O/D trans was expensive at about 4-5k bux.....all I wanted was a overdrive for Florida highway speeds....

went automatic for about 25% of that amount....first attempt was a 700 because it was in my '87 vette....seemed ok, but in the '72 it was a bit irritating with that huge RPM drop 1-2 in traffic, course it had a Trans Go shift kit so it was very evident.....:spit: went to a 200 I built myself with all the good parts....for maybe 800 bux or so.....

:shocking:

every one I have seen has a useless 1st gear.....want to talk about expensive, the Jasper Nascar trans is $16K new.

Yeah, no doubt out of my price range. The units I was looking at are used.
