1958 MGA Coupe

I'd say hit it with a wire brush in your hand drill. Get one with a threaded shank and make an extension with a bit of all-thread & a long all-thread adjuster nut. (Use the brush without the extension for the first couple inches so you don't have worry about it slipping out near the ends and flying across the garage--don't ask me how I learned that...)

There is also a gas tank sealer product I used to use on old rusty, corroded motorcycle gas tanks. Pour it in, roll the tank around to coat the inside, pour out the excess, let it dry. Makes a gasoline proof coating. You could coat the inside of it with that stuff to keep further rust & degradation of the filler neck from contaminating the tank.

thanks

you wonder why a restoration takes so much time......i kind of know what I am doing, i have the tools, space, light, controlled environment and it still took 45mins to terminate the ends of two wires hook them up and connect the previously made wire between the distributor and coil.... I told my wife 15 mins max........ these connectors have spade terminals on them and had lots of terminal exposed so I used a larger shrink tubing zip tied on the end of the wires/terminals to act as shield

I was watching Wheeler Dealers and Edd made a point that proves we've been doing it all wrong. If we paint our cars green, they'll look mint. Sigh, I guess it's time to start repainting everything because I want my cars to look mint. :waxer:

well on the way back from parents weekend I stopped by a friends house and picked up some bumper brackets, hopefully soon i can get a parts order in and get back to work

grabbed a couple of hours today......we could not twist off the shift knob so i ordered a new one.......we put some vise grips on it and it simply turned off.....could not explain that one. so we are going to bring it back to life now it has the white enamel on it. we will sand it off and then spray lacquer it

when you are in it its ok......its great for guys with long legs and long arms.....i am more like a T-rex.

the challenge for me is bending to get your head in, i am not real flexible any more.....my varsity college soccer days and marine corps marathon days have long since faded into glory days, along with my 32" waist...... i think i found the sweet spot you sit on the rocker sill tuck your head in and then the butt and the legs can swing in one at a time... the seats are new foam and like the vette that takes away head room until they settle down some..of course my portliness isnt helping anything in getting in but should help compress the seat foam.

I sat in a TC with the top up a few months ago. I could hardly get in or out, it was so cramped I could hardly move and the footwell was so small and the pedals so close together I could not work one pedal at a time with my size 10 cowboy boots. I don't think I could have worked the pedals even barefoot. British people must be smaller than us beef & corn fed Americans.

oh yeah lots of leg room and the E brake handle on the pass side

i plan to run it through the bead roller to get the nice curved radius and then the shrinker stretcher to get the slight upward bend

moving forward install heater box fresh air hoses, paint inside of rear bumpers, and use vinegar and a wire brush of gas tank filler spout

choke cabling, heater box cable installed....another two hours....why does everything take 2 hours??????

these are MGB aud 135 carbs

cut the cable sheathing

20161002_183827_zps2zxualal.jpg

this is the long "tappet wrench" that is very thin to hold the inner nut on the cable clamp
20161002_190436_zpsvz9i4ten.jpg

you can see how thin these are.
