I have been trying to work my tune for the past 2 seasons, and I am getting really sick of it.

I have been working with people in the industry and have found what I think is a GREAT ECU solution for those of us with older distributor based ignitions.

This system does not support coil on plug, and some of the fancy features of some of the more expensive systems or cam sensors and such.

It sells for under $2000 Complete, including a wide band O2, software, and wiring harness.

It only has 5 pages for tuning, making it extremely simplified.

The system has 4 injector drivers so it fires 2 at a time, better than the GM batch fire.

Many of the people using the Motorvation system have been in drag racing. I'm going to find out how this adapts to the street. Musi, who just ran a 5.6 1/4 mile, setting a new record, is using a similar system (same manufacture different interface) and many 2000+ HP guys are using it.

I'll take pictures and do some filming so you guys can see if this is a good solution to go from carb to injection that doesn't cost $3000-4000.

Should be here by the end of next week, and hopefully can start the installation shortly after that. We'll see how it lives up.

So I'm sacrificing to be the Guinea pig here.....see how it goes. Cutting out the old stuff, to put in the new!

<2k for all that ain't bad for today's prices....but, as you know, I"m a junkyard hotrodder....so wondering what a GM computer from the late 90's could be coaxed into with some programming....

I understand they are capable of being programmed, but dunno if it can be altered enough to make it learn as it runs type thing, with a WB O2 sensor....

:amazed:

Hope that works out for you....sounds really good....

Thanks Gene,

I think with my cam it's going to be really hard to dial in the stock computer. I have too many hours in it already and two seasons of not running 100%

I also am gutting the stock ignition for MSD. Going with the 6D with the programmable one, new distributor and ignition coil. $600 wholesale just in ignition. THis sucks, but I want it to run right.

I'm leaving the stock ECU so that I can run the AC and other stuff. It will be a tandem installation.

I'm thinking for guys like "US" with either carbs or early EFI, this could be a fairly inexpensive, easy to configure solution. I should be starting this weekend.

I'm really interested in a good retrofit FI upgrade for mine so I'll be following this closely myself. I've been considering the ProJection system but have heard both good and bad about them. Right now though, all I have money to do is sit on the sidelines and watch you guys have fun.
Keep us posted.

So basically there's two things wrong with the term "millionaire playboy"....

A lot of systems have more bells and whistles that aren't really necessary, like AC cutoff at high RPMs. No one EVER does that. The ability to support individual coil packs, doesn't really apply to us. So..I'm thinking if this works, I carry two lines depending on the application.

I was against aftermarket ECUs. When I was out at Dart a couple weeks ago, the CEO recommended this system, it's what THEY use on their dyno. They're nice guys there. so I'm going to find out soon enough if it's as good as I hear. If it is, I'm going to include it in my product set.

Well, ummm...yes, I have had fun, figgering on only one shot at life, but that has cost me dearly in the bux dept.....

Hey guys, go to my facebook page, john supino, there's a bunch of photos of the install. I will be running around for the next couple days when I get back I'll post them here, it's just a function of time.

Fan us while you're there!

Bumped for Gene:
Here's the ECU I have been talking about. The hardest part of doing any of this is finding the place to mount it.

I did some of the mounting work today. Still a lot more to do.

MSD Install. Again the hardest part of this crap is finding a place where it will all fit.

I put the MSD box under the battery box, I will have to modify the battery box to accommodate the MSD. My dremel is at my dads, have to get it tomorrow to modify the box. I went with the frame rail, as it is covered by the wheel well and runner board.

I managed to get 3 of the 4 mounting screws into the MSD box, think I'll just run a serial cable to the top.

Here's some shots:

You can see the ECU on top to the right.

This is where the ground from the battery ties to the frame, I grounded everything there, you can see the yellow connectors through the wires.

This is off the positive side of the battery, and is stock. I picked up the battery connections from here:

Here's the relay all hooked up:

Here's the wheel well back on so you can see how everything fits:

Here's the harness plugged into the ECU. Fits nicely. See the gray relay off to the right, I am powering the constant side off this realy to ensure the battery doesn't drain.

I had to modify the battery support based on where I mounted the MSD. It was an easy job, I trimmed as little off as I had to. Not sure about the structural integrity issue, I'll look at that when I put everything back together as it's the last piece to go in.

Here's some pics:

Here's the new ECU under the stock ECU. You can see I can still reach the plug to tune it even with the stock ECU in place......PERFECT!

Here's the MSD.. MY wire work is with the wire loom on it, that mess to the right is GM's deal.

I ran a serial cable up from the MSD to the top of the motor and it will sit right there so I can tune it at will without bending over, which, is hard to do these days...once you hit 40 it's down hill.
