Control arms with Johnny joints

A few years back I read a thread on installing Johnny joints in stock control arms
Now I can not find it. Does anyone remember this?

I've been thinking you could just machine a hiem joint down. Also started looking for smaller j-joints.

No cutting required then.

Thoughts anyone?

I see my old thread is still alive ?

For the front arms I don't see a huge benefit using JohnnyJoints or Heim joints, the arms only move up and down and don't rotate like the rear trailing arms.
For the front a Heim joint would have to be screwed in so it's adjustable, that's the only benefit I see.... A threaded tube could be welded into the stock arms if you want it to be adjustable with the stock 'look'

benefit would be that the bushing would not melt.

I understand that the del-a-lum bushings will melt with the heat from the headers.

this is a big block car

Duntov sells this set up with the johnny joints but they are very proud of their parts.

why would they need to be adjustable, the thurst washers and lock nuts will hold it in place

like I said, there was a thread on this a few years ago, just can't find it

Global West makes a spherical bushing kit, I use something very similar from Herb Adams on my racer, Global doesn`t advertise that they sell it separate but they do, click the link then click on the smaller pic.

Thanks. Are they held in with snap-rings?

Looks similar to this. https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.co...tuff&Product_Code=R1888&Category_Code=UNIBALL

Or these:

I'd like to replace the poly bushings in my Tom's ta's (Oddball size).

the golden west bushings are for trailing arms not front control arms or did I miss something

FOR THE FRONT -- You might check out the SPC website; http://www.spcalignment.com/race

They have a Chinese Menu of parts your can put together that might be what you are looking for.

Global west ta's posted by redvetracr, uses a slightly different joint. More like a heim with no bolt. I assume it is held with snap rings in the TA.

If the IRS is what you are wanting to work - I'll make a shameless plug for; "Jim's Giovanni." I did the "Karsten-mod" and added Johnny Joints to the TAs then sent off to be all powdercoated and other work at VANSTEEL-- not offsets.

I'd like to sell the whole lot, modified crossmember, hubs with new bearings, TAs, composite spring (new), rotors (with aluminum hats) - the works. 12694eac8a58e7b6b.jpg

I've moved on to a different direction - the inboard brakes setup.

Shoot me a PM if you might be interested. Like the TV Show, "Let's Make a Deal!"

Cheers - Jim

Thanks Jim, but I've got a Tom's setup, I wanted old school. Next car would probably use stock arms hacked for offset.

Otherwise, I think it would be a good deal.

Duntov wants $ 879.00 for a pair of control arms with the spherical bearings installed
I think the company is called curie that makes the bearings and they sell them for under $70.00 each
I was just trying to find the thread we're someone was doing the mod. What they did was similar to what is done to the trailing arms. What I'm mostly missing is what to do with the cross shafts
