200R4 help needed

A friend has just completed a 200R4 install in his 78 and is having a problem. Shifting into first gear from neutral and when it shifts down to first when driving, it bangs into first only. Reverse is smooth and all the other gears are smooth. Anyone have a solution? The trans was purchased from Summit racing.

If the TV cable is not connected what would happen?Does it effect first gear?
I don't know much about autos so not sure why going into first gear will cause the banging and all other gears are smooth even reverse is smooth.

typically FIRST gear is not dependant on the TV cable position for it's engage referance/line pressures...

when it upshifts, the tranny cable BETTER BE extended by the throttle cable/linkage if not, the tranny is shifting too smooth....

IF you have a proper shift kit in there, preferable by TRANS GO, you will find it upshifts really crisply and IF the Tconverter WAS locked it would chirp rubber.....

not recommended for daily modes though....it needs that rpm cushion or your can eventually snap parts outta the tranny...

they built pretty good, but NOT out of unobtanium....
