I have headers and true dual exhaust with an H pipe and a pair of Flowmasters out back. The Flowmasters sound great outside the car but inside the drone goes right through your head, one of my stock speaker brackets has a sympathetic vibration with it too, it buzzes like hell.
I am considering replacing the Flowmasters with something a little more tame, any suggestions?
Another thought - is there any way to tune the exhaust I have now? Would resonators like some of my old Cadillacs used to have be of any help? They were skinny like glass packs and could be installed in front of the Flowmasters.

Back in 2004 when I had under-car exhaust with two Borla mufflers I added two $20 Summit bullet mufflers and it decreased the interior noise significantly.

Two Dynomax Ultra Flows might be a better option for you - maximum flow (you cal roll a golf ball thru these) and they're quiet. The perforated tube design seems to be a lot better than whatever baffle nonsense Flowmaster is using... the Flowmaster 80s series muffler on my Z28 was just horrible...way too loud inside the car, actually it was quieter outside...

I like my Magnaflows. They have a deep rumble at idle and when you hit the gas they sound great. At 70 MPH, it is quieter than my stock exhaust system was, and that "droning sound" that I had to endure with my stock exhaust systems is virtually eliminated.

On which car are you referring?? the C3 BBC car???

I would love new bass rumble muffs for my '72 with crossover pipe....stock on there now...problem is...any resonance at slo cruise is NOT acceptable....and I can't get a answer from anyone as to that perticular point about the magnaflows....

I have them on my 70BB. Same experience. They are reasonably quiet at cruise so you can hear yourself think about wtf that clicking sound is that wasn't there last week..............

He has them on his 80. I have them on my 81. I have seen the flow comparisons myself in person. The Magnaflows, although pretty quiet, flow the best, honest.;)

Guess which one's I run?

The Hooker Maxflow made the best power while still being very quiet at idle/2000rpm, but nice and loud at WOT. The Bassani Real Street also made nice power without being too loud. Anybody have any feedback on these mufflers?

Magnaflow and Ultra Flow seem to be pretty much the same design: perforated tube with some sort of packing around it.... Magnaflow is stainless, not sure if the Dynomax is ss too.... the Ultra Flow I had was just coated steel.... I think they offer stainless mufflers too..... check Ebay..... there are some good deals out there if you don't mind welding, the direct fit "bolt on" mufflers are expensive....

No there on my 80, Jeff(big2bird) put me intouch with Magnaflow and they used my 80 as a template. My 68BB had a new stock exhaust put in during the resto in July 08.

DAMN, X pipe, the whole thing....guys talked of it, but I never thought possible....I have about12 years on this system, mild plated typical cheep pipe, but NO rust, too much time in the garage, I guess....anyway, that car sure looks NICE, and where in hell did you get that TAG?? someone used a gun on the DMV.....

:lol::D

The formula I read somewhere (David Vizard?) is flywheel horsepower X 2.2 = minimum required CFM of exhaust flow.

Example:
350 HP X 2.2 = 770 CFM total exhaust flow.
Divide 770 by 2 for 385 CFM minimum each muffler.

I like my Magnaflows, I do get some drone right at 2000 RPM, but I just try not to spend very long there.....

I use the Pypes Race Pros. Quiet inside and good sound out side. The guys have heard them on a couple of Bird runs. Good flow straight thru just like Magnaflow but only 60 dollars and life time warranity.

Just installed Magnaflow's with 3" x pipe. With the stock x-member replaced with a tubular unit you get a staight run to the rear... much easier. I dumped the flowmasters after 2 weeks, could not stand the sound inside. Magnaflows do not have the drone or too loud... but still have a deep aggressive sound.
