Question: Late C3 hood latches

Anyone have pictures of the hood latches on late C3 applications? I saw a picture of the underside of a guy's hood who was working on a CAI setup, and the latches looked very different. I'm wondering what the latching mechanism on the firewall area looks like. Just curious why Chevrolet changed the mechanism, and is the later mechanism lighter weight?

The later C3 had the hooks on the hood and the latches mounted to the body. They all looked kind of like a cross between the door latches and the passenger car trunk latch.

Looks just like every other hood latch GM has put on a vehicle in the last 50 years, except there is one on either side of the firewall. All there is on the hood is a heavy gauge wire bent so that it inserts in the hook part of the latch. The part on the hood looks like THIS
