An couple of ironies of Shelby. He dreaded working with Ford and promoting Shelby Mustangs. Factory cars to him were not race cars. However it became his bread and butter. The other is the most replicated, 427 AC Cobra was the least of his racing enterprises. Since his history went from the 289 roadster then the Daytona coupe and on to the GT40.

His dungarees may have been the fore father of the modern racing suit. And the Terlingua Racing Team was really not a race team. It came up as an idea as a joke at first, then it snowballed. It's where his ranch was located in Terlingua, TX. And he sponsored what was the first chili cook off. And his daughter met a man there that liked chili. He liked it so much he started a restaurant chain called Chili's.

Another story told is Shelby's plans originally had the 427 Cobra not built with a 427 but an aluminum block 390 Ford was making for NASCAR. And the wheel base was to be I think 4" longer. AC Bristol had already ordered the frame material and cut it to the same wheel base length as the 289.
