Frame/bracket - Tig Welding

Hello Guys,

I have a couple of brackets that I want to tig weld to the frame. What do you have to do to protect the electronics - just disconnect the battery and located the tig ground as close to the weld as possible?

You need to disconnect all of the ground wires to the frame also, not just the negative batt cable.

I used to just remove the battery ground but now i believe you must remove all grounds. I have killed 2 spark boxes from welding on the frame with just the battery ground removed. The first one was a MSD box ... it misteriously quit working a couple of days after doing some welding ... thought it was just coincidence. A year later i was doing more welding and a couple days later my Jacabs spark box just quit working ... so be carefull when welding and remove all grounds.

Thanks for posting this. A buddy had an MSD spark box go bad after some welding had been done on his car. After trying a few things, he gave up on the MSD unit and went to a Mallory. It may have just been the welding that did his box in. I sent him a link to this thread.
