Picked up a nice, previously resurfaced 168 tooth GM flywheel at an estate sale today. It already has a few spots of light surface rust, and I intend to clean the surface with brake cleaner to make sure that any contaminants are washed away before storing it. However, I'm not sure what to use to protect the surface after it's clean. Any suggestions?

Cellophane/Saran wrap, tape up with packing tape....maybe cardboard on surface......

I figured I'd need to put something like Cosmolene on the surface to keep our local sauna-like humidity from rusting into ore in the next five minutes. But I don't know where to get cosmolene.

Well! You should try CRC soft seal in spray can.

We use that in offshore industries and last for years ( Quite ! ) I had machined engine blocks ready for assembly and stored for 2 years, sprayed with this product and covered with plastic bin bags, with not a piece of corrosion on them when I sold them.

Stinks a bit, will cover everything around it as well !! Better to do it outside !
