Should a TPS act this way?

Water is heavier than fuel. What I do is remove the fuel line at the fuel rail and hot-wire the fuel pump. Fill a glass with fuel. If there is any water, it will settle to the bottom of the glass. If none is present in the glass, there is none in the tank.

That is what I would think also...BUT.....there is that sock on the pickup, and I wonder if it passes water as easy as fuel.....I would think SO, but in the dim past I have found proven water in this damn tank....

the tank will very occationally take to having pressure in it, if I fill up the tank that float valve to keep gas outta the EEC line is sealing the line....so IF I drive the car a lot, like on a road trip....then when stopping for gas...the tank has pressure in it when popping the filler cap....so I know there is no way for water to be getting IN the tank from rain....but I swear, there is something fucked up with the gasolines here......closest Chevron station is about ten miles ONE WAY from me.....damnit....

wonder if I can just go to Walmart and buy a whole case of that techron just to keep it around, and consider it another expense, like toilet paper....

bury the fucking problem THAT way.....seems stupid though....

I got my computer back from FAST today and they indicated the tps and crank information were acting erratically, so they replaced the ecu and board. I'm hoping I can get it hooked up to test it later this week.

Well, I got the new ECU from FAST, plugged it in and it is a completely different car. I'm very appreciative of the engineer that helped me out, but also pretty upset that I fought with a bad ecu for 1.5 years to get this car running right, even after maintaining from the start I had a bad ecu. Ah Well, at least it's working now.

First time the car has run without any error codes. It is remarkably easy to tune now that things work correctly...

Now I need to start planning my Tom's rearend and Vortech setup, even if it is several years away at this point. At least I have new door panels/hardware and some odds and ends I can work on in the mean time that has been sitting in the basement for several years now.

Good news Dave. Looks like you are on the road to recovery. I saw your post on the other forum. I think you have a little more head room on your timing curve, but I wouldn't push it unless you have some knock sensor feedback. I run my idle timing ~19 deg. 17-20 deg is typical. 38 deg at 2600rpm under light load.

Glad that turned out well for you, 1.5 years....jeebus, I tossed the towel after a month, couple winters ago......one thing about my stupid computer system, it works and I have 4 proven replacement on the shelf.....I have had my problems for sure, but they have never been computer related, damn spark boots against the header type trick....fixed THAT for a change, and then the water in the gas trick.....again, been about 5 years since I clean/drained that tank.....but for the last week or so since I did that, the car is fine, and much smoother now than EVER with the Techron....what those bottles of techrom proved is that it WAS FUEL related......now to figger out how in hell water is getting into the vette tank, and not wife's Escort and even the work truck which with a 35 gallon and sits more than I would actually LIKE these daze....

:crap: so I"m off to locking caps now....

:shocking:

maybe next year I will find a junkyard computer with OBD2 and sequential and get into it that a ways....then again, maybe I"ll just DRIVE the thing....

Thanks for the feedback guys, might go drive it around in a bit, too cold to do much else :)

Anyone know where to get some good tail light assemblies for a '76? $200 in Ecklers is a bit steep.

I have a vette junkyard up the roadk if you want me to check, send a PM, and I can call Wayde and find out if he has some....what else in years will be ok???

I've got the ones I just took out of my 77 if they're the same. Not sure. I just converted to LED. They're in good shape.
