2000 ford windstar more trouble

Well, good, glad that worked out for you, I lost track of this thread long ago, obviously, and so just a couple months ago, the wife's '99 2.0 Escort started setting EGR codes, and I could find nothing, borrowed neighbor's scanner and it came up nothing but EGR....

NOW I had a extra EGR valve, so changed it out, nothing, same shit....

I note there is two ports about a couple inches apart coming outta the EGR tube about midway from the exhaust mani to the valve itself, mounted just downstream from the throttle body....so I get pissed and pull the valve and pipes off and inspect....they are all clean, so I put my mirror behind the intake and pull the t-body to see in there, and sure enough, plugged, I stick a lag bolt in there and file out the carbon....vacuum it up to keep the shit outta the engine, and reassemble.....

same thing EGR code.....

member them two little pipes?? the lead to some flow sensor up on the firewall, it's a majic little potmetal box with a 3-4? wire output on it....

riveted together....I call around, and sure enough AZ and O'reilly's has it in stock.....OK....not to spend 50 bux too fast because I a cheep old bastard....

so on the drill press and drill out the rivets......

inside is a little microphone sealed between two gaskets chambers going to the main pipe....the little microphone is sealed pretty good with what looks like conformal coating ...electronic shit like urethane paint.....so I wipe out all the moisture, warm it on the kitchen counter a tad, put the thing back together wire it shut with some heavy copper wire around it and twisted...

good as gold, changed the plugs, and back to 32 mpg and runs good as ever.....

like U I am a hardheaded old bastard.....:smash::harhar::surrender:

Some guys just can't say thank you can they.

Jeff is like a little school kid, stand behind his mommas skirt and make faces, but aint man enough to man up, ROFLOL.

So an update on this. OZZY don't even respond because you were ignored long ago!

Anyways After spring replacement, change to upgraded front valve cover, new tuneup, new injectors and a trip to ford to have it's PCM flashed with updated software (I think that is what they did) The windstar has never been a problem again. I have probably put a few thousand miles on it and it has never skipped a beat.

The pcm flash helped even more and got the vans engine to run even smoother. I did ask ford if they have had any issues with valve spring breakage and they have never heard of a problem with the windstar so maybe it was just a badly manufactured spring.

Nice to hear that you got it back running well.

I bet if you asked the dealer if they had the stock valve spring in stock for that engine, they would have it right there and plenty in stock.

I had thought about going to ford but at the time was a very busy time at work and ordering online was just easier is all. All the parts only took like 3 days to get here and I wasn't in need of the van since I have my camaro to use as well.

The full valve spring kit was only like 65.00, valve cover kit 105.00, injectors 135.00, tuneup stuff 205.00. So yeah had to put a lot into it but figured eaiser to do it now then later and have peace of mind.

My windstar has something like that as well, I recall it has two rubber lines from the egr pipe going to it or something like that. I basically did all the upgrade and recall fixes I could find online. I even did the EDIS rust removal fixes which my bracket that holds the coil pack was corroded pretty bad, cleaned the throttle body and MAF.

I didn't know shit about this until maybe 3? months ago, then finally found out maybe 2? months ago...

follow that shit, pull the EGR valve, check that passageway into the induction, and maybe pull that electronic microphone device....IF you think that rascle is bad...set EGR codes....

I wonder who else uses that device besides FORD....it had another maker's name on it...pat pend and all that shit....

Mine never had egr codes, it had missfires detected, low voltage detected, lean conditions detected on one bank.

JEFFY , I know you have ignored me (ie hiding behind your mommies skirt) cuz you aren't man enough to say you were wrong and you learned something new and aren't capable of saying thank you.

I tried to help you, give you a heads up on simple old skool skills . you didn't want to hear it, you are stuck in the electronic world.

Believe it or not all things that are new aren't. History teaches.

IF even 1 person quotes me on this post I will be totally amazed.

what's wrong with you two? Ozzy was right about a mechanical problem and Jeff chose to replace a ton of parts instead, big whooping deal.
I don't agree replacing parts until the problem is found is the best way but I am thankful that by doing so Jeff supported our economy

if you can't get along why don't you two just ignore each other ?

I think Jeff IS ignoring him (despite repeated efforts to bait him). I'm gonna say that Jeff is taking the high road here.

This thread is about a car, this is a car forum. Get it?

high road, hell jeff aint even on the road, he has ignored me instead of just saying thanks..
seems the rest of you are to pc to speak up either.

adios, this isnt any different than CF

You know, I never even read this thread untill today.
So, if I get this right, after 2 years and 320 posts, you want to quit because someone did not thank you for something or other, that right?
BTW, this will never be CF. See, if it were, this would have been locked/whitewashed ages ago, so I fail to see that reasoning.
How about just cooling off awhile? Have a beer.

apparently nobody feels it is worth speaking up, and I agree with bird, elsewhere this would have been sanitized and put to sleep many moons ago.

not any different ? Does this mean at CF people don't say 'thank you ozzy' and are ignoring you as well ?

I appreciated your input to technical discussions but I can do well without the drama, they might like it at cf or wherever you go.

Just the two on the affected cylinder. It hasn't had the issue since and still runs good.
