Default C3 ignition ballast resistor wire material?

Anyone know what the actual material is that comprises the ballast wire? I always assumed it was some nichrome type wire, but I've heard other materials mentioned. Anyone know for sure? Just nerdy engineering curiosity on my part.

Thanks,
Mike

I wanna say steel.....but it's a resistor wire so that makes almost no sense, given the length.....

Quit bugging my memory, makes me scratch my ass......
