Started my 74 yesterday and the could not move the hurst shifter out of reverse into forward gears
Kept pushing the clutch in and out and was finally able to move the shifter into all gears, still had some hangup problems with forward gears.
After the car warmed up it shifted good on the road.
Makes me wonder if I am going to get stuck somewhere.

All thoughts welcome.
Thanks,

Most likely the shifter is out of adjustment or a shift rod bushing is worn/gone. Look up the shifter set up procedure and use a 1/4 bolt as the set up tool through the shifter body. Make sure the shift rod bushings are in good condition/not missing. You'll be glad you did - the shifter will then work the way god intended.
Once a shifter is out of adjustment it is possible to engage 2 gears at the same time. This can be catastophic if you try too hard to make the car move in that situation.

Thanks for the info.
I will take a look at the linkage although the shifter is only a couple of years old.
I was thinking that maybe the reverse security lockout rod is sticking.
