A good friend over here has a shop that works mainly on american cars. He often has old chevy vans come in for repair and he told me he many times he finds problems with the ECU units. What he would like to do is order 5 chips like the one seen below. Does anyone know where to by these also is there a generic chip you recommend he buys to cover a range of chevy's?

There is no generic chip, there are memcals ffor 4,6 and 8 cyls so you need one for 8 cyls fr the cyl select and limp mode to work. Then the difference is the bin, identified by the broadcast code. If your ar is MAP you need one for a map system, for maf likewise.
Have VATS? either disable in BIN or use one set up correctly.

Manual trans is different from auto. Sme for 5.0 and 5.7 TPI.

Yoou could set up a custom bin, taylored to your actual rear end ratio and such. Easy to do, all you need is a stock memcal, a g2 memory adapter and a custom prom.

All of the vans are V8 autos. If he orders replacements using the numbers on the chip can he get what he needs? Also what is the technical name for the chip, so he can look them up?
