Going to need new tires for the C6 soon. I'm bored with the stock 5 spoke C6 rims so I started shopping for chrome rims.
Today I found 19x9.5 and 20x11 C6 Z06 motorsport rims and just out of curiosity I went to Tirerack to see how much the tires are. Guess what: There's a better variety in 245-35-19 and 285-30-20 that the stock 18/19" size.... and they're not a lot more expensive than the stock size tires :yahoo:

Got some pics of 19/20" chrome rims on a C6 ??

I bet they are a hell of a lot higher than $120/tire, which is one good reason I never shopped for larger wheels...so I stick with my 17's....

:2nd:

Getting a little frustrated and irritated with these pressure sensors: if I remove the four sensors from my stock rims and install them in aftermarket wheels it voids the warranty. I already had three of these sensors replaced on warranty
Four new GM sensors are $350 and in order to get the silly 1 year (parts) warranty I have to have them installed at the dealership... ouch...
My sensors that I currently have are covered by this GM protection plan (extended warranty, parts and labor) until 2014 - I'd be stupid to buy new ones and get only one year parts warranty - the labor cost to remove and install the tire won't be covered :crutches::crutches:

I think I'm simply going to replace the tires and keep the stock rims.... F it....maybe buy 18x8 and 18x10 combo for the '79 instead :D:D:D:D

Gotta be a way to change the 'puter' so the LTPS is not active, disable the entire system...no???

or is that another 2000 bux or something??

:bonkers:

Believe it or not: the TPMS has been very accurate once the sensors were replaced. When the system shows low pressure at 28psi it really is 28 psi when I check the pressure with my gauge.... now that it's working I would hate to disable it - I am pretty sure my "Predator" can do it (handheld programmer)

You need to go with some black rims to match those lights.

your going to put 245 tires on a 9.5 inch wide rim? My car had 245/40/17 tires on the C5 wagon wheels (on the front) and they looked like crap on the rims. 245's fit a 8 inch wide rim real nice though but on a 9.5 the sidewalls tuck in towards the tread real bad.

I would go with a 275/40/19 or 275/35/19 on the 19x9.5

yup.... 285-30 on 20x11 - not wide enough.

Although traction is more of an issue for me and I'd take the widest tire I could fit, really the car will handle best with a tire that doesn't bulge. I'd guess 255ish on a 9.5" rim. Ask some autoxrs if you really care to know. But like I said, if it were me I'd go 295 on a 9.5" rim.

My observations seem to say that different tire manufacturers will have varying tread widths and shoulders on the same 'size' tire....so they can look radically different just as much as two sizes can....so IMO, when you say bulge, it's relative to the tread cap....

Just saw a 18x9.5 with 245-40 and 19x11 with 285-35 in person today, that's the stock C6 tire size on wider rims.... looks like a 255/315 combo would be perfect but they don't make that size....

I am getting more and more disgusted with this whole rim/tire deal.... one set in 9.5x19 and 11x20 that I like is around $3500 incl. tires... plus pressure sensors..... F that..... I park the car outside, one day I'll find it on blocks without wheels...... think I just keep the stock rims, strip the clear coat and take a buffer to the rims.... replace worn tires and call it a day.... get some long tubes instead.... :D:D
