I am integrating a complete factory '86 front suspension system as an intact unit into my '70 frame. As I was thinking fabrication mods to the '86 carriage for attachment purposes, I noticed the upper '86 framing has identical upper and lower holes where the upper A arms bolt on. The irregular holes are punched out on top of one another (obviously), with a height difference of about 1 1/2" . I am guessing the choice of holes might have something to do with engine weight allowing for suspension compensation with a one size fits all mono spring. I am going to install a L33 5.3 aluminum block, so if the location choice is about weight, I'd like to get be thinking about my best option early.

Can anyone clarify what the variation in A arm height positioning is about?
