Is it common for a dana36 to crack here?

I am curious if this whatever it is was used to seal a crack in my differential or it was put here maybe by a rebuilder so they could tell if anything was tampered with for warranty reasons.

You can also see it in the area where the C-beam bolts pass through.

Either way it has to be welded if it is a crack since I am polishing all of this, but is a weld here risky or should I just replace the housing if it is cracked?

not a crack all c4s have that stuff on the c beam on the diff and tranny side.
It prevents creaks and moans. I reassemble with some white grease and remove that stuff
