Anyone weigh an aluminum body shock & compare that to a steel body shock?

Ex. Bilsteins compared to QA1s. This maybe a good way to shed some lbs.

QA1 coilover shocks ? The biggest weight difference is probably the spring, same for the rear. I just got my fiberglass spring and it's amazing how much less it weighs.
The stock style shocks are not very heavy - I wonder if the aluminum body of the f.e. QA1 shock is made from thicker (wall thickness) material and if there is any weight advantage. Interesting question.... did anybody weigh these shocks ??

HAHA....right about that spring, I remember getting the VBP 360 years ago, and it weighed nothing, so without thinking I dropped the OEM steel anchor, and about shit as it flipped over damn near wiping me out....:waxer::goodnight:

Yeah, I've got the vbp fiberglass springs front & rear, very light. I need shocks & hoping that there is some significant wt. loss that can be had...

Received an email from the QA1 tech. line. A front shock, single adjustable, non- coil over for a c3 weighs 5 lbs. Now, to get a bilstein or koni wt....

A C3 Bilstein front shock weighs 2lbs, 3.6 oz

A front C3 Delco Performer gas shock weighs 2lbs, 9.8oz.

I would chose the best shock...... insted of the lighter.

Bilstein are good shocks...... QA1 was not able to control the stiff spring I have (1000 lbs).

Have you never opened a QA1 coilover shock?

Do it..... and give me your opinion...

2.2lbs with steel rod ends....

These are the Bilstein's we use. Quality product and revalvable. Qa 1 parts are made in China and in my opinion are less than desirable from a performance aspect. At one time they where a quality product when Hal Lees was building them one by one in his shop in Florida. They just dont have the quality control they once had...
