2.5 L inline 4 cyl FWD, auto.....only gets like 25 mpg EPA ratings....

what is the reliability ratings of those cars?? anyone have one??

I have found one that needs a cylinder head, the old head is off the car and boxes of shit in the trunk to be reassembled, but I suppose the head is scrap, so anyone with any experience on that series of cars????

It's a maybe for my wife.....

Tanks, it's only 2 grand and clean looking, NADA/KBB come out at 4500.....:bonkers:

Can't be too reliable if the head is off and boxes of parts in trunk.

That 2.5 was used for many years so there should be plenty parts available. Altimas are really not bad.

Anyone familiar with the appearance of the short block with head off, the cylinders are not touching up top, the way I would think they should....almost looks as if the metal is broken....a bit odd looking....

:bonkers:

Jeez, Gene--for two grand you should be able to find a decent car that runs instead of needs to be rebuilt.
I bought a 97 Altima for my former wife last year that's a good solid reliable little runner for 2G---and I only paid that much because I know the man (82 Vette, 383", 200-4R, etc) and so for my respect to him I did not haggle the price he was asking on Craig's List.

what's up with all the :chinese::chinese::chinese::chinese::chinese:

Mainly because it's nearly impossible to find a decent Escort of same series for less than 3 grand, and these bastard insurance company won't give shit for her car....1500 bux, we can't even touch one for that, we going to talk to some power players here.....

and on the insurance lowball: get a friggin lawyer and let him explain what you're entitled to. ever seen the Morgan and Morgan ads on tv ???

Spotted a '99 Merc Sable ~104k on CL this evening....

going to see it tmrw AM....1600 bux, even had cruise control....

so to maybe keep the Escort and remove the engine and new parts, and the Sable is the same car.....

will see in the AM.....pisses me OFF no freeking END that Linda can't get anything for Pain and suffering.....I find that hard to believe.....

a buddy had a similar accident with a Saturn.... he bought another one with front damage, cut both cars, welded the two good halves back together..... he still has that car..... LOL

Mercury sounds like a good deal for 1600, cash talks, assume 1400 and its yours.....

call a few lawyers monday, consultation is usually free .....

Yeh, old trick, a body shop client of my father's up north, decades ago...welded two car halves together, frame/body and all, this was back in the 60's.....

Scratch on this thread, we decided against the cars were looking at/thinking of......

HOPEFULLY another '99 Escort we want to look at, pans out ok, because I have a parts selection and knowledge.....
