Short Shafted

A fellow Stl C3 Shark member just purchased a tilt tele column off ebay for his 69 and was asking me why the length from the firewall plate to the shaft end was 3/4" shorter than his original. I told him I thought it might be compressed from an accident or something like that. What should he do to expand it back to spec. Can he just pull it back out?

Yes, it can be pulled out buit it will never be locked back in place because the plastic keys broke. Check this out for better insight: (scroll down to see the shaft)
