brakes, went to wilwood brakes.

cooling, went to 1.25 tube double core Griffin AL radiator.

shed some weight, more later with AL block and rear.

17 inch tires give more predictable handling

5 point belt holds you in place

Good luck TV,,
HPDE is a great way to really learn how your vette handles at high speeds..

Also an invite to come play hillclimbing,, They will be honoring the Corvette this year at Hersey!! Got my medical back. however dont know if the car will be ready. three week wait on the front wheel shells,, finish up the rear flares,,paint,, running out of time,,, then the 10 hour haul. gas bill will sux. http://www.svvscc.org/

First try at video taping HPDE

Regretfully, due to my home made mount sucking and user error I only was able to get a few minutes of footage and it wasn't even on a very good lap :cussing:. I need to get a good mount before my next HPDE.

It's a pretty cheap digital recorder, and it has an internal microphone that is picking up alot of wind noise. Anybody know if there is a cheap fix for this? It doesn't have a port for an external mic., so I'm stuck with the built in one. Any ideas???

Hey White76,

Thanks for posting your video. For a quick moment I thought you flipped the car, until I realized what happened to the camera (and there wasn't the expected bunch of noise and screeching). I used to put a lot of miles at Putnam when I lived in Kokomo. Even had my first ambulance ride when I screwed up at Dead Bear turn on my Yamaha. All in all, a fun track though. Keep us posted.

I'll try and get some better video in August. I'm going to Road America and back out to Putnam Park.

My video camera has a built in mic also. I ended up fastening some foam or felt strip over the microphone. It stopped the wind noise whistling across it, but still allowed the engine and tire sounds to pass through.

oh crap that freaked me out. I thought he rolled it.

You guys liked the suprise ending :shocking:. Guess my home made camera mount didn't work too well :bounce:. I'll get some better video next time.

69427,
I'll give the foam idea a try. That wind noise is really annoying, but then again for $99 I guess I can't expect too much from the camera.

I made it back to the track earlier than I expected .... kind of a last minute thing. Corvette Troy sponsered an open track day at Putnam Park. I have to give a thumbs up to my instructor Scott Shimdt (spelling??) that gave me some really good advise. I managed to drop a little over 3 seconds off my lap times, along with being more consistent :yahoo:.

Here's a few laps of me along with a '90 ZR1 (you can see him in my mirror a few times) chasing a C5.

White, you should be called smooth hands, nice track time!!!

Thanks. The advise you gave me back on CF last year about going to a stiffer spring setting did improve the car. I might go ahead and put the front transverse leaf at the hardest setting before the next HPDE.

I've left the car basically the same for the last three events so I could just work on my driving skills. That way I was able to get a decent feel of how the car handles before doing any more modifications and adjustments.

The video makes me feel drunk, the dash and all moves up and down but the rear view mirror and roof line do not?? huh??

It's that camera mount. I need to buy a decent one soon, but I didn't have a chance before this event. It's allowing the camera to move in all directions a bit. Oh well, so much for my $5 mount, guess I'll have to buy a good one ... wouldn't want to make anyone feel sick ;) (I know its a bit annoying isn't it).
