Is there supposed to be a backlight for the (center console) heater control panel?

No, there's a spot light in the very top of the center cluster, it's that protrusion in front of the vents

You mean the one odd sized bulb at the top? I thought it was a map light.... I'll get it working again, damn thing is a PITA as it tends to get knocked about when you reinstall the center cluster. Thanks for the reply.

Remove the glove box interior, and reach thru there, you can get to it that way. (At least in 81):shocking:

Yep. Can't remember the number though.
GM #9433183 most vendors will cross using that number...costs about 3 bucks
