75 Corvette Resto Mod

Here is the Carbon XR. Quite unique. I love the way it looks.

I agree! Here are the performance numbers they said one could expect:

427 c.i. LS7 High Performance Engine: Gain of 56 HP and 52 ft-lbs Torque @ 5700 rpm over stock intake; 33 HP and 48 ft-lbs peak to peak gains. Tested independently by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering.

Crate LS7 Engine with headers: +44HP @ 5600 rpm on a crate LS7 vs. production intake, +30 HP gain at 6800 rpm vs. production intake. Torque gains of 30 – 40 ft-lbs over 4,300-5,800 rpm range.

502 c.i. Hot Rod Engine: 825 HP & 745 ft-lbs torque naturally aspirated with a hydraulic cam. Tested independently by Golen Engine.

427 c.i. Road Race Engine: 724 HP @ 6500 rpm and 649 ft-lbs torque @ 5700 rpm naturally aspirated, hydraulic cam. Tested independently by Golen Engine.

So I hired a guy to do a rendering of my car to get an idea of what it will look like when it's done. What do you think?

Looks great! I like that you've made subtle changes while still staying true to the heritage. Can't wait to see the finished product! :)

Thank you! That's definitely what I wanted to do. The overall body of the car is really nice. It just needed subtle tweaks to bring the sexy back, lol.

Ok, I need a little help. My original plan was to take any piece of chrome on my car and make it a satin grey (door handles, convertible top receivers, window trim, rocker panel). However my wheels are shiny and the grey on the hood would be shiny too. Do you think this will clash? Should I stick with all shiny? I just don't think the window surround and door handles will look as good (more like stand out too much) if they are shiny. Thoughts?

Attached the pic to hopefully help visualize as well as the one above without all the writing on it.

I'd like the satin/grey on all the trim with what you're going for. Will those bits be powdercoated? As to the wheels and hood - why not go with a satin clear coat on those? That would tie all the pieces together.

Have you considered removing the door handles and using a solenoid system?

Sorry, I've been listening to "Car" Tunes all day in the garage. Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, Eddie Cochran, etc. while wrenchng on Elvira's IRS and rear Brake setup.

My '72 is also a rag top, and when I did my pitiful paint job, I also removed the door locks on the surface, no point to lock a convertible.....:surrender::)

Dude, are those wheels Enkei's?
I see custom side markers, aftermarket or from another car?

Yes I agree, I think the trim and door handles will look better in satin. The wheels I owned from the C6 Z06 and they were already gloss. I suppose I could spray them satin however SRIII sort of recommended that I don't do satin on the hood. They said that if you accidentally polish a spot on it you will never get it to look the same again... I don't know what to do...

The wheels are HRE. The side markers are from a Lamborghini Aventador. Had them custom fiber glassed in because I just couldn't stand the old rectangle lights, lol.

One issue I've had with my build is that the tail lights I bought are LED but they don't build them with reverse. Well I saw the build that Denpo is doing and really liked the idea he had for his lights. With his help I have a great start in the direction I'd like to go. Using the COB Angle ring lights I'd construct the housing out of aluminum and then powder coat them charcoal to match the wheels and other pieces like the door handles, window trim, etc. What I could use some help with is the making of the lens. I'd want it to be clear and have a slight dome. Not one as dramatic as the domed LED lights you can buy for these cars, but I definitely don't want it flat. Is there anyone out there that has ideas how would be the best way to get these made? What material would be best for it's clarity and durability?

Years ago I needed backup lights for my custom '72 so I went to Carlisle car show and picked up a couple of backup light from an unknown car for less than ten bux, wired them in, they are below the bumpers and shine pretty good, about 2" square and clear dome glass.....maybe try Amazon or Ebay???

They look a bit odd, but I have some tiny "driving" lights hanging just below the bumper as backup lights. I'd like to eventually glass in a '68-style license plate opening with the lights beside the plate.

If I were to do anything like that I would have glassed them in to the bumper. I'm already beyond that point so it's not an option. I also reduced the size of my license plate holder to where basically only the license plate fits, so doing something there is not really an option either.

I've looked all over, ebay, google... This seems to be my best option as long as I can get a proper lens made up.

Progress is being made as they just dropped the body onto the chassis. Here are some pics.

Bad news. The Carbon XR will not fit under my hood. It's just too wide and surprisingly a little too tall as well. Hood is already painted and has had tons of work done to account for the hinge mechanism so changing the hood is out of the question.

On to the next idea...

Here is an update on my build. Thanks to an idea created originally by Denpo I have decided to make my own custom tail lights. They will have some similarities to what he has done but with my own twist. Here is a look at the housings with the lights in them. I plan to powder coat the aluminum and make a clear outer lens to finish them off.

Thanks Denpo!
