Anyone know how to get a PCM

out of a 2004 corvette? Got the throttle actuator off but the rest is beyond me. Have both manuals for that car and they don;t tell me squat.
 
Just the PCM? Pull the right fenderwell access cover, or the complete fender... it's behind the right fender, below the battery tray. "Swift move, geniuses at G.M." BTW, if you have the real G.M. service manuals, they do cover this topic.
 
I guess I should have elaborated, I am already at that point. If the manuals covered this I wouldn't be posting on a forum, they have brief discussion but not quite the detail needed.

I think there are a few 7mm hex head bolts holding it in. You may need to remove the 7mm hex bolt under the front lower fender, to allow pulling away the fender for tool access.
 
I don't know what the PCM stands for, but that looks like a computer, and described as being below the BATTERY and behind that plastic shield out in the weather???

OH, so PCM runs engine and tranny like a 4L80e would take, or the newer 6+ speed units....ok...
 
Air bag deployment = parts car

In the case of a vette, maybe so......but a old tenant of mine from years ago, had some import POS with a very obviously exploded regluded airbag on the steering wheel in his car...

cut out the bag, pull the car, reglue the cover, case closed....

Ya, but the air bags on a C-5 are not too sensitive, and by the time they deploy, the front end damage totals them out. The bad thing is usually the windshield and dash get destroyed during deployment. Early C-5's will total out with less than 6k in damages.

Yeh, and it don't get much to arrive at that figger either.....

freeking airbags are 500 bux or so, last I heard.....almost makes me want to disconnect the bags in the cars....:harhar:

do you happen to know if airbags have any lifespan to them?? Wife's '91 Miata, has the airbag light going off, she is aware of the 'hazard' but not wanting to fix it.....I guess I probably could, but how would I ever know the airbag itself was worth a flip???

without 'testing it'....damnit.....

C-5 airbags are north of $900 each. The airbags themselves are reliable, but the sensors and connections not so much. Dunno about the explosive lifespan...they are sealed, so might be pretty long. Hell, WWII munitions are still killing people digging them up. No recalls or law-suits from non-deployed airbags (on old cars) that I've heard of.

HUMM....well on the NA/early Miatas the airbag computers get bad crapassitors on the circuit boards, but they are buried up under that dash making them a superior PIA to remove, so I have not bothered....the '99 Escort shows no symptoms/lights...but I do wonder....
