what a bunch of amateurish fiddling. I always simply put the distributor in how I want it with the rotor facing where I want #1 (since everything is relative) and then if it doesn't drop down, bump the starter and it will drop down with #1 still where you wanted it. Fiddling with a oil pump primer or a long screwdriver...come on now!!!

U must 1/2 wenched on a couple bolts or two.....
