Noise in 97 LT1 help

Unless you SURE it's a bent oil pan, but that sound is almost identical to an open air pump line....something in the AIR system.....

:gurney:

This is the area of the pan that looks bent in. I feel something hitting the pan here as well when motor is idling.

This side of the pan is where I feel it the most

Back of pan was beat up like this when motor was pulled but doubt anything could hit in this area.

LT1 pan, up front mine is definitely bent in compared to this.

do you just want to take a hammer to it and beat the dent out or are you interested in a better than stock pan ???

Okay so I did the nasty today. No didn't pull motor either, nor take cradle out. Put pan on something and flattened oil pan out and it's back on.

You can see where it was being hit

here is what the LT1 looks like inside.

haha, I was going to ask if you wax your toes but didn't want to get that personal..... looks like a french manicure ..... :waxer::waxer:

the scraping evidence inside the pan is quiet obvious.... it's probably going to run fine without the dent in the pan.... but really, I have to admit, I didn't think a dented pan can cause this kind of noise, it really sounded like either a air/egr tube leak or some other weird stuff.... any idea how you dented the pan ???

Possibly when hoisting the entire motor like this. The pan hit the rack and pinion.

Oh and just to let you know. LT1 you do not have to remove the engine nor the cradle to get the oil pan out. You simply raise the engine as high as you can and remove the six cradle bolts and let it drop 3 inches and you can get the oil pan off.

It's a main cap. I think it's a deceiving pic because of the shape of the counterweight/crank throw.

It is because angle laying on my back and side taking the pictures.

It's because of the P shaped love, that's making it look like the cap and crank are not parallel.

The horrible wrapping sound is gone
