I changed the oil on my DD today. I pretty much always use Mobil 1 and today was no different. On the 5 quart jugs, there is a thin, plastic seal which I normally push my finger through and pull out. Today, it tore in half and folded inward so I couldn't easily get at it. About half way through, one half folded out and the other half went down the filler neck.

I probably would have just drained out the $28 worth of oil but while emptying out the reservoir, what shold come out but another seal. I usually change oil at approximately 5 k miles so that seal was obviously in there for a while with no I'll effects.

What says Vettemod?

The motor is a 4.3 liter Lexus V8 if that makes any difference in the opinions.

Depends on where the oil goes in.....valve cover, most likely minimal damage if any....into the lifter valley like many older cars.....watch your ass, course if it's OHC....you on your own with that one....

Be a terrible thing to blow a gasket over a seal.....
