Picked up a nice, previously resurfaced 168 tooth GM flywheel at an estate sale today. It already has a few spots of light surface rust, and I intend to clean the surface with brake cleaner to make sure that any contaminants are washed away before storing it. However, I'm not sure what to use...
Top of the list: an Aston Martin DB5 body. I've run across an article where some chap in England was making one, but it was just a one-off. It'd be fun to build one up with something crazy like a BMW V10 and fully-independent suspension.
Besides the fact that floating calipers are much newer technology, is there any significant performance upgrade from this modification? I would assume that those Wilwood calipers are significantly lighter than the stock parts, but overall, the C2/C3 disc brake system seems pretty good to me.
It sounds like the booster isn't allowing full pedal travel with the engine off. Have you tried bleeding the system with the vacuum lines disconnected?
It also sounds like you either have a missing/defective check valve, something plumbed wrong in the vacuum system, or a defective brake...
There's not much on these things that can't be re-used or recycled. Nice steel frames, good hardware (usually grade 5)...and best of all, most have DC motors with PWM speed controllers that are great for converting tools with AC motors to much more useful devices with easy speed control. This...
