went out on a long term project boat today with some buddies...not MY boat...and so on the way home....

the vette hit a major thunderstorm...for the first wash off in a few months....

and the poor thing developed a miss, hitting about a foot of water on the pass side gutter.....engine developed a hell of a miss on the way home....

dried out coming across the bridge, and was fine by time of the driveway....

does anyone know how I can make the engine run underwater??? ie...ignition system totally grenade proof for water and exhaust temps....???

Yes, but it's not worth it Gene.

Tanks, at least WWII units, used SS submarine conduits, (think SS aircarft tubing), with the assorted fittings and "O-ringed" dizzy covers, etc.

I guess that thunderstorm hit you after it passed thru central FL..... it was a lot of rain, I don't think I need to water my lawn for the next 2 months....:lol:

On the road most of the day, so not in one spot enough to note wind/cloud directions....but I did note a catfish in a canoe, rowing upstream like mad.....

but he didn't make it, another drowning casualty.....

Here is a plug wire:

Spark Plug

Note the plug wire has screw terminals on both ends. You'll need to find a cap with the same ends.

Oddly enough, aircraft use the same style, but it's because the thin air at high altitude is less resistant to arcing out of the wire. So they pressureize the distributor, wire and plug. That's on piston engines- the jets don't really care since they kind of run on the same principle a diesel does.

You can also coat everything with dielectric grease. That helps, but if you keep using your Vette as a submarine, you'll need to get serious

:rain:

Here's what's worked for me in the past. Fill the plug wire boot with dielectric grease, and RTV the boot to wire seam.
Won't make a submarine out of it, but should keep it from shorting out in H2O. Be sure your wires/boots are in really good shape.
This worked well on my old GMC 2WD truck. I often took a frequently (short span) flooded route to work to shortcut traffic.
