2 cycle engine oil?

What is in 2 cycle oil? I have a 2 cycle lawnmower and a number of 2 cycle powered lawn/garden tools that I don't want to throw away. I'm finding that 2 cycle additive is getting expensive and I can foresee the day that it will be unavailable.

What is so special about this stuff?

I ran vegetable oil instead of 2 stroke oil when I was young and broke and my bike ran for years with no problems. It just smells like a greasy spoon diner.

I think it has something to do with the ash content,lower if I remember right.

That's interesting. My uncle used to use regular engine oil instead of two stroke oil and always wondered why his 2 stroke engines would just die after a while.

you can use Vegetable oil,and Bean oil. It does not have to be made from petroleum products. Check out a motorcycle shop that sell's dirt bikes and the 2 stroke oil they sell.
