I have an option on a bowtie block that has a 1 piece rear seal configuration. Since i have a 2 piece I would need to go with an adapter.

Did anyone here before use such an adapter ? How did it work out ? Results ? Leaks ?

the adapter only works with a 1 piece seal block and a 2 piece seal crank and works fine, used it and didn't leak but as with all chevy small blocks the seals are not the best designs, I have a few 1 piece seal engines, some weep, some don't

Thx, any things i need to tell them before they install it ? Which pan seal did you decide to use, the late or early style.

A small weep is not a big issue, a leak is.

I would use the one for the late pan if you can, seals much better. One thing though, get a quality adapter and use the correct alignemt tool to install it (centered) or it will leak like there is no tomorrow. goodson has a good one as well as a quality adapter, part numbers RSH-PILOT and RSH-350

If I may borrow this thread:

I have a 1pc rear seal block (with the old ext/in balance crank). But I am seeing much better availability on 2pc stroker cranks. So it made me think and I am now considering using the seal adapter and choosing a 2pc crank. Would like to go internal balance too.

I would like to hear your opinion on this: if you had a choice of 2 otherwise equal cranks would you guys prefer
1. 1pc block + 1pc ext/in balance crank or
2. 1pc block + seal adapter + 2pc internal balance crank

? And why?

Thanks!

Personally I would opt for a 2 piece crank and associated adapter, since it still lets you exchange your damper and flywheel when needed. If done right, it shouldn't leak imo.

I do not have a choice since i already have the crank but if i would have to choose i would certainly opt for a 2 piece.

I know that on a old Pontiac 455, you could use a Caddy 500 engine two piece NEOPRENE lip seal in place of the rope seal....and it fit fine, except needed be end gapped properly....

I wonder if anyone ever tooled up to make a similar wire reinforced lip seal for the earlier SBC, last I heard it was NO.....

urgent

Ok i have a second question about this. I hear that a late style pan has a different bolt pattern. Is this correct, because the bowtie is clearly late style and then i would have to use a late style pan.

Do these fit our vettes ?

I can't help on bolt patterns but they almost have to be different around that dip stick swap from left to right at some point, but I dunno when that happened.....and how it affects the bolt patterns....

I haven't heard that the bolt pattern would be different but the rear section is different for old and new style pans. This has something to do with the 1-piece and 2-piece rear seals.

And if you have a 1-piece rear seal block and 2-piece seal adapter then - if I understood it correctly you choose the pan according to the 2-piece adapter you have (or other way around if you already have a favorite pan). So, you can buy the 2-piece rear seal adapter in 2 styles - one for old style oil pan and another for new style pan.

If you read Summits product descriptions for 2-piece adapters they will say if the adapter will work with old or new style oil pan. For example check Moroso 38315 and 38415 adapters.
