After doing a search in this section it seems there's a lot of worn pins and bushings on our cars.

I had thought to just buy new hinges for the nasty 81 but they don't seem to be available? Or am I just not looking deeply enough?

Are there any "underground" hardcore parts suppliers out there besides the usual "fluff" catalogs we all see?:fishing:

I just did a set of hinges on the camper van, it's a '71 chebby van 30, so if they had pins and bushings in stock at the local parts house for THAT, surely they have for a vette, nearly same hinge....

or try Rock Auto.com.....bet they have them too....

basically a green grass item...

You can buy pins and bushings at most parts stores. Once they are out it only takes a couple min to replace them.

It's an absolute piece of piss to replace the hinge pins and bushes. It would be real helpful to have a floor jack to take the weight of the door and someone to assist you to hold the door steady on the floor jack. Have you got a Dremel? You'll probably need to grind away half the head on the upper pin to get it to clear the fender edge as it's coming out then do the same on the new pin.

Probably take you around an hour, including the grind time

My intention is to remove each door for a detailed overhaul. Paint the sills and all while giving the mechanisms a bit of attention. I wonder if that's a good idea now? The messy drivers door hinges were the impetus, may have to do some rethinking.

After all Its just a tart-up. AS I STRUGGLE TO RECALL..........:shocking:
