my daily driver is getting tired, some visible smoke, no noises yet, which makes me wonder what i could do to improve on it with a rebuild. i was hoping to get some input since i've never had an lt1 appart before. i guess my goal is to gain some power without replacing the whole engine. i'm open to making it a stroker ( 350 - 400 hp)? what's realistic for that motor for a street application and does anyone have one that they built up and have specs for? thanks.

on a budget? Check compression, if that's ok leave the pistons and bores alone. The smoke might be the valve seals, new seals and new valve springs might be all you need.

still running, i think you're right, it might be the seals, but the car has higher milage as well.

IMO, miles alone don't mean much, I seen engine with well over 200k on the clock and have good compression not a issue...

UNLESS of course it's been through a tough life, overheating, oil changes, etc....

i haven't had the car long, coming up on a year now and i drive it every day even in the frigid cold, it hasn't let me down. truly a man's car it still kicks ass at the lights and i change the oil religiously every 5k and use mobil 1 synthetic. maybe i'm just paranoid. i cant see myself ever driving anything other than a vette.

i let the car sit for a few days over the weekend and when i start it up there's a bit of blue smoke, but only when it sits for a few days. i dusted a bmw at the lights the other day on the way home1 god i love my car.

Eh, my '87 did the same, I did the rope trick in the spark plug holes, and did the seals right there on the car....the silly factory L98 did not come with seals on the exhaust end....the umbrella types that is...not the O ring under the keepers....so I changed all the seals and added the ones for the exhaust via Fel Pro kit.....it's a back breaker...

found smoke source

the front tranny seal no my car has slowly been leaking and finally let go last week. im pulled the tranny out and took it in to get rebuilt. peter the tech told me that my front converter bushing has spun and moved and that had a lot to do with the leak. i'm patiently waiting for my trans to be finished so i can put it back in.
