Anyone know of any reason other than age, that an evaporator in my '72 would fail?? like too much pressure?? can a POA valve stick closed?? and allow high side pressures to eventually reach/build up in the evap ???

:gurney::banghead:

WELL, so it seems, there was a somehow LOOSE BOLT on the capillary line from the expansion valve going to the POA valve....and so it let all the freon and oil out....how and why it's loose, is not my department.....

at any rate, when trying to charge it, I found the shrader valve was defective...not passing gas....get bloated that way, bad for ingestion....

so pulling that pos, only 1/2 of IT comes out...shove a sheetrock screw into the remains in the middle there, and pull IT out....new valve, air pressure check, holds, then evacuate it again 26 lbs of suck on a 100f afternoon in the sun is not so awful evil....holds for over 2 hours.....

in goes the 134, still holding and slightly cooling only maybe 15 oz in the system, need another can....maybe I buy 2.....

so the evap is good, I think,.....

now, how did that bolt get loose?? brass into aluminum, everyone else seems happy....:gurney::sick::confused:

at least you found the problem.... use some locktite and call it a day....

Just went thru this crap with the Mustang AC, many new parts, still don't work.... thinking about going back to R12 :suicide:
