Just curious what people are using. When I first got my '69 the fresh air vent to the RH valve cover was plugged with one of those 710 plugs, and the filter base was also plugged. I never gave it any thought at the time, and eventually (a few years later) I welded in a tube with the flame arrestor into the filter base and then hooked up a hose to the valve cover to complete the PCV loop. I've been running a 780 VS Holley for several years, and was recently doing some work on my spare 850 DP when I noticed that the vent tube in the filter base hits the secondary accelerator pump linkage. Now it makes sense why the filter base was modified when I first got the car. The previous owner had replaced the Quadrajet with a double pumper spread bore Holley, and I'm assuming that he (or most probably, his mechanic)encountered the same interference with the secondary pump linkage.
So, my question is: What filter base are (BB) guys using when they run double pumper Holleys, and are they able to use the vent hose to the RH valve cover?

Thanks,
Mike

Moroso 65910, no vent tube. Could you not relocate the vent mount on the filter base?

Yeah, I can cut the old tube out and relocate it. I've done that on a couple filter bases. I'm just curious what everyone else was doing when encountering this issue.

Forum question: Just out of curiosity, what carb and filter base was used on L-88 and ZL-1 engines?

A little off base comment, but knowing your interest in weight reduction. Holley, I believe, is now offering carbs in cast aluminum instead of "pot metal."
Is an aluminum Holley on your horizon? Those pot metal carbs were really heavy. Maybe pot metal is not the correct politically description for the alloy. VERY interesting that after all these years, Holley is offering aluminum versions of their carbs!!!!!

I'm interested in your weight reduction campaigns, although I won't go to the emphasis you have at this point in time. Like to read your posts.

Thanks!

Regarding weight reduction, the original reason for this post is I'm modifying an aftermarket filter base and had to weld in a vent tube to clear my 780 Holley. This base is aluminum, and half the weight of the original steel part (1 vs 2 pounds, but hey, it's up front and up high and I got it cheap at the last swap meet).

I've been looking at the new lightweight Holleys, but IIRC, I haven't seen anything bigger than a 750 CFM. As I mentioned, I'm currently running a 780 and have an 850 on the shelf for future use. I'd like to take an additional 5# off the top of the engine, but I'm reluctant to give up some horsepower in the process. If I'm incorrect in the CFM sizing, please correct me.

Stock A/C aircleaner base will work with a Holley DP if you "tweek" the accelerator pump linkage to clear the PVC elbow. If your base is screwed up buy a replacement from a Camaro parts supplier as the prices are more reasonable then at most Corvette parts sources (same Tiawannese reproduction part for the 375HP 396 as the 427 Vette.) Bend the arm where the spring loaded bolt is at a 20 degree angle and it will clear with no problem.

It took me a long time to figure out why my old 302 Z/28 loaded up so bad at idle then I found the arm of the rear pump was being actuated by the aircleaner base.

Regarding the Question about the Carbs on L-88 or ZL-1 As far as I know , the L-88 s and I believe the ZL-1 as well used an 855cfm Vac Secondarie Carb, Basicaly the same physical size as a 3310 Holley, dual metering blocks except it has a larger venturi body and larger butterflys in the throttle plate, I have a new body for a 67 L-88 here, complete with GM Part No. Sadly the throttle plate and metering blocks are no longer in our shop.

That certainly explains why the stock filter base only fits vacuum secondary carbs. Thanks!
