No doubt I have had some very good fortune, and was fortunate enough to recognize it, when it appeared. Serendipity. I became a believer after driving a 63 FI 4:11 when it was new, but was too poor to afford one until around 1970. So I’ve been an owner & enthusiast for 40+ years, If you stick at something long enough, you should get to know then subject – whether is Corvettes or paleontology. Regretfully in the next few years I will need to downsize, because letting these old girls sit is just no good. My Yellow 75 hasn’t got 500 miles on it in 17 years & that includes the 350+ mile trip home from Carlisle. My Bronze 435 convertible hasn’t had 100 miles in 10 years. Even with 3 different cruises each week, you just can’t drive them every day & I do tend to play favorites. More is not better, but it is fun. Eeenie, meenie, minnie, mo …

Did you ever see the collection Chip Miller (RIP) assembled? On display in my garage, I have a full page story from the NYTimes showing Chip amongst several of his Corvettes. Or Lingenfelters collection. Yeow.

Yes a 69 427 with side pipes is Music to my ears!

GEOFF, my memory serves? didn't we have a conversation about you being a very old time DC region resident in the mid/late '60's, and you being a Corvette Club of America member/honcho, and I showed up for a few meets at Rosenthal Chebby in NOVA??.....been a while....

I maybe have you confused with another man, sorry....

Gene that was someone else.
I have been to several swap meets hosted by that club long ago - when swap meets were swap meets. Today they are gold chain, gucci loafer C6 bling-a-thons. I do believe were have jaw boned in Florida however.

 Just curious, why do you leave the hoods unlatched?
Trickle chargers on them all?

I have only one running C3/68 that is mostly in storage. If I don't drive it, I run the engine about once a month and get the engine up to max temp before turning it off.

I fret about the alcohol in the gasoline corroding my fuel tank and carbs. (All new Quanta tank and new Holley carb which is probably pot metal.) I bought 15 gallons of high octane, alcohol free, leaded gasoline. When I bought it I had to give my name and address. Should have used a dummy name and address...they didn't ask for ID. I'm weary about using this in my 68 since I've read there's a $10,000 fine for putting leaded gasoline in a car that's registered. I bought leaded because it also prevents anaerobic bacteria from growing in the gasoline. (If theres a small amount of water at the bottom of the tank, these bacteria can live at the water/gasoline interface..not a big threat, but possible.)

THAT's interesting, in that my lawnmower has a black gas tank up top, and for some time now, when I go to fill it, I see some mold looking white patches, maybe a slight green? color, but easy to see if tank near empty....

I have a gravity feed/filter/cut off switch, but if pull the carb float bowl, I always get some crap outta there, so to pull the air cleaner and blow it all out, runs fine...BTW, I use a 1/2" drill to start my mower, on that top bolt by drilling the shroud and removing the stupid rewind starter.....GOD I"m lazy.....:smash::smash::lol:

Two reasons - I leave the hoods un latched in the garage

One - I always check for fuel leaks on start up as the floats may (and have) stuck & let gas pour onto the intake. Plus 3x2's have more fittings to rattle loose that any other Corvette. And you cannot tighten the rear two carb inlets to these carb without removing the one in front of it. a real PIA & pixxpoor design.

Two - I'm a firm believer in the Green knob cut off switch or the knife blade version and the 56, 63, 67 & 99 have under hood batteries. Whenever in the garage I disconnect the battery. I can't keep mice out & if they start an electrical fire, the whole group will burn. The nearest hydrant is 3/4 mile away. I have insurance, but I don't insure for megabuck values, just for basically what I have in them.

When the trickle chargers first came into vogue I bought a case of 12 to become a "wholesaler". They all became quite warm to the touch & two of them fried the batteries the first winter. Since they don't prevent fires, I just figured another piece of imported chinese electronic crap was not worth the risk. Keep it simple: unscrew the knob; lift the blade - it's cheaper, simpler & safer. Each spring I give my 56 a small shot of ether to help wake up after a 2-3 month rest. The other start after a little cranking to fill the fuel bowls.

I guess I haven't learned my asian lesson yet as 3 months ago I bought a digital multimeter at RadioShix and it quit in 2 months. Also got a remote electric eye chime from them for my driveway. It works on my desk with the remove 2 feet away, but doesn't do crap for the driveway 50 feet away. Never again will I set foot in that emporium of chinese chit. Have you noticed that all the former AA, AAA & 6 volt dry cell batteries are now imported from there & they don't last either. I hope they don't supply pacemaker batteries if I ever need one.

Go ahead call me a Yankee racist. I don't give a ----. Just give me a quality product. I don't care if it's made in Jerkistan or South Bumfluque.

PS a third reason for open hoods - have you ever tried to jump start a C1, C2, C4 or C5 when the hood cable broke or the latch got jammned. What a cluster phuque that is. Tip: always push the hood release handle back in, especially on C3 after release.

The DVM you want is made by the John FLUKE company.....

I have one in a rubberized impact case with a swing out prop out backside to stand it up, and a simple plug/switch arrangement in front,

take a look in Google/ebay for one, decades ago, I paid like I forget what money....but ebay figger 100 bux today, if you can find one.....

I picked up a slightly newer model and gave my old one to my son....

Mine is gray, they make electrician models in yellow you see in Lowes Depot, etc.....

Mine is about 25 years old, and will easy outlast me.....
