i noticed some hard hitting noises after going over bumps lately and jacked up the rear and noticed that i dont have any bump stops on my frame for the trailing arms. any body else like this? i just have metal bracketry that looks to me like it should have some sort of bump stop rubber on it....i guess its time to get out the catalog and wallet

Here's what this rubber cushion looks like:

Auto Zone:
Part Number: 9.9154G (energy suspension)
Alternate Part Number: 9.9154GX

4

.
RaceMart has them for $12 but not sure on shipping charges

If you want rubber instead of poly then check out RockAuto: $4.77

METRO Part # XB100 Lower A-Arm Bumper. 3-7/8 long, 1-7/8 high.

The rubber cushions like redvetracr posted are much better. What they actually are due to their shape is a variable rate spring with a quickly rising rate. urethane is just bling. It will be unnecessarily harsh once on the stop and the material will go brittle over time.

never thought about that. I don't know that I ever hit my bump stops, maybe this is more important for lowered vehicles ?
the rubber stops are only $4.77 at Rockauto, is that a typo and should that be $14.77 ?

i tried raising my wheel up when the car was on jack stands and i couldnt even get close to the bump stop bracketry...i was inches away and then the car would lift off of the jack stands...

That's static weight, once you go through a pothole you will experience dynamic weight, the suspension will compress

Ya I don't see any reason to run a urethane bump stop. My lower control arms are probably less than 2 inches from the frame. I'm sure I'm on them all the time.

it almost seems like i hear the hitting noise after i go through the bump/pot hole...i realize its hard to isolate noises and it all happens pretty quick. can it be hitting anything on the way down? i have grabbed and shaked/shook everything down there and nothing is loose or has any evidence of being loose. maybe i should take off the wheels and see if there is evidence of the trailing arm hitting the bump stop. all thats left of the bump stop is the 1/4" or so threaded stud that use to be in the bump stop and is now in some bracketry mounted on the frame. i bet if thats hitting something there should be a circle....

You could just get the $4 rubber pieces, bolt them in place and glob some paint on the rubber where it would hit the trailing arm.... drive a few miles and hit a few potholes, then see if the paint is still there or not....

What is the condition of the TA and strut rod bushings? Have you checked the tongue bushing on the diff? Also, my first thought was shocks. Over normal street bumps and potholes it's unlikely that you would (regularly) be bottoming out the suspension if the shocks and spring are in good shape. I'm thinking you have some other problem.

TA are the 1/4 steel channel, with poly bushings, all new bearings, new axle stubs, diff and clutch pak rebuilt, VBP smart struts all with in the last 8-9k miles. everthing looks tight and i see no evidence of any thing rubbing or being lose or worn. new front diff bushing and there is no clunking when puttin git in gear. also new spring bushings

you know i dont have a battery hold down, i wonder if i am hearing the battery bouncing behind me since I moved to VA because the roads are so crappy down here....i need to mount that
