I went shopping for bodywork supplies at the local PPG dealer.
One of their technician who allegedly did repairs on Corvette before sold me some Araldite 1258 over the usual 3M 8116 for putting my front clip back.
I clearly mentioned I needed SMC compatible stuff.
Cheaper and better according to him.

Back home, did some web search (see previous link and this one).
The stuff looks very hard (too hard?) and is supposed to stick to anything without mentioning SMC in particular.

I'm kind of torn on the matter, do I need a SMC specific adhesive or Epoxy adhesives stays epoxy adhesives whatever the brand and the product?
I mean, when it comes to resin, there is no tens of types of epoxy resins, right?

:noob::tomato::sos:

Need your take on this guys.

I once bought this stuff called vette panel adhesive but forget the brand name. It resembled bondo kinda but bonded my panels extremely hard.

Kinda remember it being made by evercoat.

Evercoat (997??) SMC adhesive works well but it comes in a QT size can and you add blue cream hardener - $40 and not very easy to apply.... works well though, used it on my rear flares.

3M 8116 - $40 and it is VERY easy to apply with the dual cartridge gun (I could borrow you my gun but shipping both ways intl. is as much as the gun would cost you - $40 Ebay). This stuff is amazing, used it on the front flares and fender grills....

Duramix: lots of good feedback online, havent used it myself.

Araldite: never heard of this stuff but PPG usually makes top notch products.

My opinion: I would not pick an unknown over a product that I know works. There's not much about this product online, no reviews when used on fiberglass or SMC....

These guys are pretty good, lots of info on their website:

Ok case closed, changed it back for 8116.
Bought 6 of then so Michel and I can enjoy a free gun.

This doesn't make any sense, you buy 300$ worth of glue and you're given a 436$ gun. Look like those cartridges are just as profitable and printer ink.
And you could tell the gun is expensive, it feel strong and powerfull and sleek...:clap:

must be Canadian prices again.... here the gun is $40 on Ebay and the cartridges are $38.... ok, 6x38+40+shipping.... still close to $300 so at least it's not too bad but do you need 6 cartridges ?
the gun looks fancy ;)

With the taxes cartridge are 50$ each here.
Do I need 6 of them? probably not, the but Michel and I together, probably.

My car is dismembered LOL
Not only I have the front end out, the birdcage is also on stands ready to be patched up.
so I'll need some of that sticky stuff too..

Thanks Denpo, I owe you now lol

Glad I had a 68 with no SMC. A paper cone sure beats a $400 gun.

these guns are great but there is a lot of wasted material in the mixing tip. For smaller projects I don't use the gun and just push the cartridge using a piece of wood or a screwdriver.
