My best friend from high school is like that. I remember visiting him in Ottawa and doing some work on his car. I pulled the drain plug on his engine and nothing came out for a while. I ended up buying some cheap oil and using it to "wash" the engine out before changing the filter. He never did any maintenance at all until something broke. I think that since I moved down here he just periodically change cars.

Have you dried out yet Gene?

I've got a 22 yr. old living with us that has no brakes or brake/turn signal lights on his 95 Ford Contour. I suggested that he invest $5 or $10 and buy some brake fluid so his brake pedal wouldn't hit the floor. Good thing I didn't hold my hand over my ass, that was last week and he still has done nothing.

A few days ago he said to me "So if I have a hot date some time, can I borrow your (1971 Skylark) Convertible? I simply told him no.... what a maroon :gurney:

My brother had a Dodge Daytona on lease years ago and about 2 yeas into the lease he takes it in because of an oil leak. turns out he hadn't changed the oil filter and it rusted out causing the leak. not much of a car guy

I've had the same oil in one of my vehicles for about 2.5 years. About 10 k miles on the oil. It's the Castrol European formulae that claims to go 15K miles. I'm about to chicken out and take it in for an oil change.

New oil change intervals are going up to 10k miles. I don't understand why time would have anything to do with it though. My Mustang sat on the lot for a year and they didn't change the oil.

My Surburban also recommends 100k mile transmission change intervals. I think that is too much.

The new cars have a computer with an algorithym to calc out oil changes taking into account milage, speed, stop/starts/ and other B.S. They also run so much cleaner, the oil is not diluted as fast as the old ones did with carbs.

I'm using Allison's synthetic juice in my truck- Allison has documented proof they've run it 100k in trash trucks and school buses- probably the toughest life an auto trans can have- and I'm still changing it every 50k. And that stuff is $38+ a gallon. Running synthetic in the diesel in front of it too, 10k at a time.
