The EU decided to bailout Cyprus, but the countermeasure was that all depositors had to pay a levy of around 10%. This was decided on saturday morning. What followed in Cyprus was a bankrun. The banksector forsaw this and both the atm's and internetbanking was closed off.

However....everybody is in panic.

I don't think we've seen the worst yet. Anyway I decided to collect as much as I can.

You do realize that the majority of funds in those banks is russian "hidden" deposits to avoid taxes? I do agree the steps taken are very dramatic and insane. That's the way of the EUSSR!!! The bakjing system will collapse because they will not learn from past mistakes, shit is still hitting the fan, bubbles are created to fill gaps and bonuses are at an all time high. OH how sadly gone are the days when scum like that would get hung.

Russian hidden deposits or not. This is mayor theft.

Do you trust the government/EU or your bank after this ?

Mark my words - universal, electronic currency.

People avoid taxes by using cash, this kind of stuff is nothing more than reactionary by the government to try to capture the cash.

It's notable that there are "hidden" deposits by foreigners - meaning, the banks themselves are no more honest than the citizens. Don't mistake me, I hate paying taxes; and think that tax deductions are a sport... however, the moral lines gets really fuzzy when people come up with reasons to cheat their own, elected government

Tactics to avoid taxes are only reactionary by the citizens to try to avoid getting fucked. Do we really need all this government and do they really need so much of our cash? The government isn't a moral authority and there is no moral obligation to pay tax.

I like your paraphrase of the first lines of the Declaration of Independence. At some point, war is inevitable. However, because dying is generally part of revolution; IMO dying for someone else's money just doesn't seem right.

It does strike me as odd that somewhere, someone got the notion that no one loses in a democracy. Of course, democracy doesn't work when everyone takes whatever they want regardless of the laws. Sure, laws are unjust, but so is dying.

Or as one of my favorite Calvin and Hobbes cartoon said "why can't life be unfair in my favor?!!"

If you get a chance look up the difference between a democracy and a republic. The founders were smart enough to give the USA a republic, but they knew it would be a challange to keep it a republic.

banks had trust? As far as I can see, banks have been the cause of the crash of 1898, 1929, 1986 (S&L), and 2008.... not sure when they'd have had the opportunity to create trust (despite many having trust in their name). Even recently, the Swiss have been giving up their depositors to the IRS so they can operate in the US (to presumably sell even more people out).

AKA, Bilderberg trusts.....Rockefeller, Rothschild, and dozens of other well known names down maybe 50 families through the generations....

Which is why I advocate repudiation of our national DEBT.....

grab the gold on our shores, which is most of the world's stock, and issue new currency backed by such gold.....

screw the world's computers/banking system......

STONE DEAD SERIOUS......WE have the subs to back it up,....all they have is some computer entry.....

or an invoice.....

PRIME TARGET is obvious....anything islam related.....

I can't afford gold or silver, but if things really get that bad, I have enough bullets. And at that point, they'll be worth as much as either of the former.

Lemme see, 15 to 25% of my income goes to income tax. Another 7% goes to state sales tax for many things that I purchase. On top of that I pay approximately $10K a year in property taxes. There are also licensing fees for my business (another tax). It does not leave much for food, gas or cars.
My government is in my pocket and in my business more than they should be. I also hate the idea of being "tracked" with my spending so I use cash whenever I can.
Trust the .gov or the banks? No effing way.
And what about the bank exec's who make bad decisions and retire rich? That money is yours and mine yet we get screwed every day.
There is not much I can do about it except to try and minimize my tax liability.

With the US spending out of control, it's just a matter of time here....
A couple years ago there was some talk of the US gov looking at ways of tapping into IRAs, 401Ks, pension reserves. Think it's unlikely....that's what the people in Cyprus probably thought about their gov even considering taxing savings just a few weeks ago.
