Clinging to my guns and religion in KCMO.
Just playing around this evening. Pulled the engine out this afternoon, and hooked it up to the semi-antique free digital scale I acquired a while back. The engine was pretty complete during the weigh-in. The flywheel and clutch (old lightweight L-88 system) are still on, along with the bellhousing, carb, distributor (in the brown plastic bag), starter (late C4 lightweight), and pulleys. No headers or open element air cleaner housing on it, as they were too bulky to fit at the moment. (I zero'd out the weight of the chains and load leveler prior to the weighing.)

And the weight I got.

I'm still playing with the scale to make sure I've got the weight halfway accurate. I've added some additional known weight (like a gallon jug of water) that I've weighed on my HF digital scale, and the engine scale will change by the same amount.
My main reason for playing with this is to see how the new engine weight compares to this one.

605 lbs... needs a diet...

the new engine is a LS1 or LS2 ???

605? must be aluminum heads and intake...no??

I was always told a 455 or any CI or a old Poncho was 800 lbs....

I would imagine a BBC would be the same....

Mine with alu heads and intake including the carb but with no flywheel was 515 and that included the weight of the crate it was sitting on.
