Hi guys, need a little help I'm changing my body mounts on a 75 most of the mount hardware is dust. What is the best way to reinstall the mounts one shim each location or? Thanks in advance

Welcome to the motley crew.....

Sorry I don't have a answer for you, but someone will, surely....

:thumbs::bump:

You should only put shim on the mounts they came off of.
What exactly is dust, the mount or just the hardware (nut, bolt and washer)?

Procedure would be to remove all bolts from one side and loosen the bolts on the other side. Replace everything one side at a time. I'm doing the same thing on my 75 right now too. I've been spraying it down with PB blaster for the last week or 2. Will attempt it this weekend

Thanks for the link MYBAD79, although in the picture the Vette is red and I thought yours was blue.

I didn't see any mention of the size of bolt for #4 mount, maybe I missed it. Good thread all the same. You must have been glad when all was said and done.

Thanks alot MYBAD79 yours look exactly mine but I can't find any shims. You weren't worried welding under there. I'm a little worried once in a while I smell gas fumes. Any way many thanks for your great post

The ones that came with my kit have a 5/16" Dia. the inside of the bushing is almost a 1/2" plenty of slack in there

I can't find any shims.

No shims on the old body mounts ?? Or do you have no shims for the new body mounts ? What are you using, poly or rubber ??

You can get the shims cheap at HomeDepot or Lowes (fender washers).

Get the body down on all mounts and leave the bolts loose. Check if all mounts are "tight" - shim those that are "loose" as required to get all eight "tight". Then tighten the bolts :thumbs:

Ok I'm using rubber. I have new shims, but I'm finding no evidence of old shims while tearing it down most of the hardware is in pieces. So you think start with none or maybe one

I don't think and wooden want my bird cage frame setting directly on the chassis like what is stated above....I think I"d want 1/4" in there anyway....

dirt/water/rust trap otherwise....

no??

The rest of the story, went with no shims everything lined up the gaps ok but the hood gap was really close on the right which you guessed it stuck hood took a while to finally get it to pop 2 1/2 days. got it up aligned lubed up looks like a happy ending. Thanks for all the help. I hate when we don't know how projects finish
