ok, most of you have probably seen my thread about the crumbled poly body mounts, for those who haven't read it:
http://www.vettemod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7083

while i was once again bitching about these body mounts and that I have to do it all over again (not really fun to replace these), my buddy had a great idea:

the body mounts have to be made from material that is somewhat soft, somewhere between rubber and aluminum would be great, they should be cheap and also made from a material that is easy to machine.... hmmmmm.... how about pressure treated lumber?
While this idea is 100% ghetto I have to say that a friggin 2" diameter pressure treated fence post makes a set of body mounts for under $8 ...... I'm convinced it would last a lot longer than the shitty polyurethane garbage that I installed in 2005..... LOL

not really serious but an amazingly simple solution :mobeer: :trumpet:

Karsten - I'm liking Acetal/Delrin http://plastics.ides.com/generics/2/acetal-acetal
Easy to turn on a lathe to get the shapes/cavaties, etc - some compression resilience, maybe not as harsh as Aluminum, last for years, self lubricating (some variants). The black is UV resistant. I'm considering that approach. Oh - BTW, I have a set of NOS rubber mounts never installed from the early 80s I didn't use back then - and some poly ones I bought a year or so back- but will be passing on those too.

Cheers - Jim

Pressure treated lumber is usually hemlock, fir or spruce. None of these woods has any sort of compressive strength that you would be looking for. They would crack and break apart in jig time. Now, pressure treated plywood on the other hand, perhaps coated liberally with epoxy might stay together for a few years. Probably cost you less than a buck a puck.

Don't worry about it, my ES bushings have been in since 2006 and look like new. You just got shit poly the first time.

lol .....

I just drove the Vette today, it's really awesome when the body mounts are in good shape - squeeks and rattles are reduced a lot ..... I'll keep my eyes on these, I never heard anything bad about ES so that's why I gave them a shot in the first place .... That crap I got the first time sround was a lot harder (well, i think to remember it was harder, it's been 7 years though)

If these ES bushings crap out on me I'll have a few aluminum pucks machined :D
