That's her name, Karma. She is a 2 yr. old Pit Bull, aka American Staffordshire terrier. Her family is moving and can not take her. As some of you may remember, I had to foster my dogs on short notice a while back. I was very lucky to find homes for them. It was either that or the threat of the shelter (shudder). We are fortunate to all be back together in our home again and I feel that it is time to pay my debt forward. Call it Karma.

Neat name....so how many pets do you have?

Me I have domestic birds that I keep in big cages out side (always warn here) Three cages under a mango tree so they are not in the hot sun and two cages near the car port also out of the sun. In cage 1}8 assorted colors of love birds, 2}15 parakeets Blue & whites,3} 15 parakeets yellows and greens,4} 2 Cockateels and one cage is now not used as my 13 year old talking Indonesian Myna bird died last Sunday from old age I guess. So I went out and bought a small parrot that is a house bird and it is a friendly one.

Oh I don't like cats...lol

She is a cutie. I'm about to lose my 13 year old rottie to cancer. If I had more room and didn't already have my hands full, and didn't live on the other end of the country, I would totally do it.

Wow. You may out do us. We're bird people too. We have two blue and gold macaws, one umbrella cockatoo, one african gray, two sun conures, two cockatiels and a love bird.
Earlier this year, I lost my Rosella. I'm still sad about that. I really enjoyed that bird. He wasn't particularly social, but he was absolutely beautiful and had a very uplifting song. Here's a pic of him.

The ex's Cockatoo with my dog Kitty. The bird was in love with my dog and would follow her everywhere and offer her nesting materials. She even would let him walk on her...

He was adopted about six months ago. Mostly a good bird but super spoiled. He bitches about this time every day if he's still in his cage. We try to get him out as much as possible but some nights are just not possible. When he's out, he's generally pretty good... as long as we're around to watch him.

update

It's Sunday night. I got Karma Thursday evening. She is turning out to be a great dog. Totally non aggressive towards me and my 3 other dogs, she is something of a velcro dog. She lays at my feet under the desk, or on the floor by my recliner and absolutely insists on being in the bed with me at night. Hopefully I can get her to back off on the bed business a bit but for now she needs the connection with me. She wants to be a lap dog but at 60 plus pounds I won't have it. She is good on the leash and does not chew or mess the house. She is missing most of her right ear and has some very extensive scarring around her shoulder and neck on the same side, as well as a small depression in the area of the scars. I am told she was attacked by her sire when she was a pup. He mauled her but good, the poor baby is lucky to be alive, you can still see the teeth patterns in the scars and that she received a lot of stitches. But alive she is and such a good and happy and loving soul too. Aside from a bit of tenderness in one hind leg she is extremely strong and graceful, she runs well and fast and trots like a show horse on the leash. She is calming down a bit more with each passing day, she's still a puppy and learning to adjust to her new home. I'll post some pics soon.

I hope that either you or another good home can provide her love and stability for the rest of her life.
See my other thread. :(

I appreciate it. Sadly, I'm getting too accustomed to this. She will be the third dog in a year.
The only good news is that will take us down to just two. Should be more manageable as I'm sure anyone that has had multiple dogs knows, if you pet one, you have to pet them ALL (or you must not love them). The other part of that "good" news is that the oldest of the remaining two is only about six, so I shouldn't have to do this again for a number of years.

When I lived in Australia, a woman Air Force officer had a pet Gallah in her apartment. It's an Australian grey parrot...they look exactly like African grey parrots that can be bought here in the US. I was really surprised how affectionate and friendly that it was. It would fly into her lap, lay down, spread it's wings and go to sleep. He would walk around the apartment like cat or dog. Walking on the floor, it would often do somersaults. This somersault behavior I believe was a signal that the bird was being "friendly;"i.e. conducive to a mating behavior. The wild Gallah's could be seen doing somersaults in air as they flew. (We had wild Gallahs and Cockatoos where we lived) I've been told that the Gallah's can actually mate while flying. The female does some somersaults in air, and the male joins her while she's upside down, mates, while the male supports them in air. Don't know how true this story is...but if it was told to me by an Aussie while we were in a Pub, it might be suspect. But if true, we know that a "Flying F..ck" is a reality.

African Grey parrots are expensive here. Cockatoos are in the many thousands of dollars. When I was in Australia, you could buy a Gullah for $6. A Sulphur Crested Cockatoo would be $60 to $80.

About the sociability signal of Gullah's doing somersaults. Rabbits are very territorial and have an instinct to attack any rabbit in their territory. This instinct is at war with another rabbit instinct...an instinct to reproduce. Rabbits, when they want to demonstrate sociability., will run, hop and skip, jump into the air, and shake their heads and flop their ears. It demonstrates happiness and also signals other rabbits they can approach without being attacked. Shortly after our rescue rabbit was living with us, I took her to the Vet, concerned that she had ear mites or an ear infection. I described her jumping in the air, shaking her head and flopping her ears,... the Vet checked out her ears..no ear problem.. and then explained there was nothing wrong...the jumping in the air, flopping of ears was just the sign of a happy rabbit.
