Building track oriented c3?

I am a big time fan of the c3. But I really want to make a restomod approach with heavy track aspirations.

Problem is I am rather ignorant to the corvette world, more of an Impala guy at heart.

Would the best approach to get a SRIII or Streetshop frame? Or is there a better alternative?

Should I just look for 69-82's in bad shape, or is there a place that sells bodies only?

I would prefer to go with c5/c6 suspension components, but is it really that much more work? Is it worth the hassle and cost?

Finally, what kind of costs am I looking at, start to finish? I get an ls7 for one heck of a price, so that should help.

Thanks in advance, and any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the motley crew....

The build is dependent on what sort of racing you have in mind.....

We got guys here that can blow your mind on suspension work, far more than I can understand....I"m just a olde tyme tinkerer and hotrodder for 1/2 a century......

:harhar::nuts:

How big is your budget? You could purchase a nice C3 for the
going price of a decked out Street Shop chassis. (No engine or tranny)

A load of fun can be had in a near stock C3 doing Solo I or Solo II.

An SR frame or Street Shop w/C5-6 supension is probably pushing 20K. You could get a nice C3 for less than that and (using the LS7) build a nice car. Or buy a racer with a cage and convert it to a street car.

Well, I'm going to be completely unpopular in this thread... but I'll do it anyway.
My opinion is to hang up the idea of building a c3 racer. Maybe if you can find one that's already built and ready to go that someone really wants to sell, that would be a decent start. Otherwise, (now this is strictly my opinion) you'll be chasing your tail building a c3 into a racer. First, the chassis and suspension design is more than 50 years old. I know you said you wanted to put a late model suspension and LS7 in it but you're talking massive amounts of work, more for the suspension than the motor, to do that. If it's in your budget to build this car, it's probably in your budget to buy a good used c5 or c6 and you would already be ahead of the game. Another point, even after you shoehorn that LS7 and all those suspension goodies in there is that the frame on c3's is about as track worthy as a bag of noodles. You'll need a cage to get any real stiffness out of it. And not just an 8 or 10 point cage either. You'll need a real cage that pretty much resembles a NASCAR cage.
None of this counts any of the less urgent concerns like upgrading brakes, gutting the interior and figuring out what you're going to do with the wiring harness or any of that nonsense that still takes weeks or months to get sorted out even after the engine and suspension is in place.
I don't mean to discourage you, really I don't. I just want you to know going in what you're in for if you want to build a true track car. Now, if you're just dead set to have a track car that looks like a c3 (or whatever you want it to look like) I think you would be miles ahead of the game to buy something like a Radical (click HERE )and build your own body.
Just my $.02, and worth exactly what you're paying for it.
