Hi Guys,

I'm wondering what the opinions are on the front Mono spring conversion.
Looking at the VBP kit. The car is a 68 with a small block and a 4spd manual.
I'm curious as to what you guys feel about the quality of the kits, ease of installation, and most importantly ride and handling.

The stock suspension is worn out, so would like to upgrade. Car is just a nice street/show car. No autocross or track events. We are just looking for a nice riding and handling car.

Thanks for any advise.

I've never been a fan of these fiberglass springs but now that I drive a C6 with a front/rear 'glass monosprings daily I am impressed with the handling as well as ride quality. If the aftermarket conversion for the C3 is nearly as good it's worth the money.

On the other hand: if you only want to upgrade the worn stock suspension get a set of Bilstein shocks and 550lbs coils for the front and match the rear spring, steel or 'glass, your preference.... it's great for street driving. I'm happy with this setup in my '79 with a 7-leaf rear spring.

It is amazing how well the C6 rides compared even to the C5.

I used to have a '99 Z28 with bigger sway bars, Bilstein shocks, poly bushings everywhere, lowering springs and I thought the suspension was pretty good.... compared to my C6 with the Z51 suspension it was more like a dumptruck....:)

sorry for taking this off topic.....

There are quiet a few threads with photos of the monospring installed, look in the suspension section... there was a recent thread about the spring hitting the frame when the suspension is fully unloaded, which is no big deal but just doesn't "look" right.

I installed the monospring kit. My old suspension was completely frozen, so I probably cant give you a good comparison between the two. the car does ride very nice, I had it on the 3rd setting (stiff), and it rode a little harsh, now Im on the 2nd hardest. it still rides a little firm (still one more softer setting left), but feels very stable for a car its age especially if you have modern tires. The install is pretty straight-forward. I have a bunch of install pictures, although its really no harder than taking the old arms off, and putting new ones on.
Heres the link, the pics of the monospring install are somewhere in the middle of the page

I did the VBP front spring and A arm upgrade on my 72 a year ago. The installation was easy and everything went well. The front is not as stiff as with the original coils. There is a noticeable bounce at low speeds but at highway speeds the car rides nicely. This last summer I changed out the rear spring for a composite also. I have Edelbrock IAS shocks all around.

As I said, the ride is bouncier around town but better on the interstate. Also, now the car corners nearly as well as my C4.
