I'm running out of ideas on how to take more weight out of the '69, and I'm pondering trying to find a smaller, lighter wiper motor out of a later GM product the next time I'm at the junkyard. I'm curious about the electrical aspects of the change. It's kinda late in the evening for me to do any heavy duty thinking, and I don't have the energy at the moment to study the wiring diagram in the service manual, so I'm enlisting some input here. There's two interrupt/enable switches on the car that I'm trying to decide if that's an issue or not. The rotating switch under the steering column just (I assume) cuts power to the motor so it's easier to change wiper blades, and the plunger switch on the firewall just (again, I assume) enables power to the motor once the wiper door fully opens. So, is this present ('69) setup really any different than any of the other millions of wiper motors on GM cars? How about the variable speed aspect of most later motors? The present motor is just a two speed item. I rarely drive the car in the rain, but I still want to have operating wipers.
