Clinging to my guns and religion in KCMO.
Well, I've been making several trips lately hauling stuff across town (we're moving), and today I eff'd up bad. I had a bunch of garage stuff in the trailer (welders, engine hoist, hydraulic press, etc) on my way over to the house. There's a little (suburb) town in the middle of my trip, and they have these bullshit chicanes in the main road that are only slightly wider than my trailer. I went through them, and heard a clunk during one of them. I assumed it was one of my tires hitting the raised curb portion of the chicane, and didn't think much about it. Got to the house to unload the trailer, and I noticed that my hydraulic press had twisted around (though still tied to the tie downs) and apparently had bounced off the interior of the trailer, putting a nearly fist sized fucking hole in the side. Looks like somebody fired a shotgun from close range inside it the way the aluminum had peeled outward. It just capped off an otherwise equally shitty day.
I'm hoping the manufacturer will sell me a (correctly colored) replacement panel to fix this thing. My previous trailer (different manufacturer) had the panels held on by sheetmetal screws, but these panels are (aluminum) riveted. Don't know how much of a PITA it's going to be to do this. These rivets look like they're peened over, rather than drawn through like hand riveting.
I'm past the point of being PO'd with this whole moving experience. Right now I'm just numb.

:shocking::hissyfit:

I hear that, and am facing the same issue with holey aluminum in my camper, neighbor across the street thinks he can get me some, but I waiting for warmer weather, damn sick of this cold, winter that wont END...:club::censored:

The manufacturers just buy the stock from suppliers, nothing special, available in many colors, gauges, baked on at the mill. I had a bunch of orange trailer sheets I eventually used up. Chances are it's Alcoa stuff.

Here is one supplier locally, that has an outlet near you.

If you have trouble, there is also a roofing company in WPB that has a large sheetmetal fab shop that can get it for you. I'd have to find their card.

Call up a place that fixes semi trailers they usually have sheets of that stuff and can get it in different colors.

Lemons into lemonade, man. This is just the universe's way of telling you it's time for that ultra cool custom trailer paint job. :thumbs:

Or just a big ass sticker over the hole. :wink:

IF I can't find some aluminum to patch the unused holes in this camper, I am going to get old STREET signs on the side...

checked with the Florida state cops....no law against it....so I have a home for a old STOP sign....if needed....on the back goes a 5 MPH sign....some others...

:D

If you need to install new rivets, I have a REAL rivet gun (not an air chisel) and an assortment of sets, bucking bars, rivet cutter and hole duplicators I can loan you. AD rivets are pretty easy to set with the correct tools. All you'll need is air, some clecos and the correct length rivets. You probably already have a drill and a supply of #30 drill bits.

Damn, I used a hammer and punch to put new rivets into my T-top frames :D
