"Roller paint," sprayed it with an HVLP gun. Thinned it with acetone, prob twice as much acetone as paint.

THANK YOU FOR THAT POST......I was going to paint my motor home/camper project with Rustoleum white, but going to thin it with mineral spirits, and not so much either.....

so what is a good ratio with acetone?? and how many coats does it take to go over some clean odd color surface??

My gun was clogged and acting up, so I couldn't tell you how many coats, some were light as mist others were like a firehose. 2 or 3 should do it though. But I used only 1/2 a pint unmixed to do the bumper. 1 gallon of acetone/ MS and 3 quarts of paint should do it for you I would think.

I didn't even use primer. But mainly because it's a plastic bumper.

Note, this stuff doesn't dry like 2K. It's still tacky 12 hours later.

Also, I would try mineral spirits. I'm not sure how well the acetone mixed. I kept having to slosh the mix around in the gun to keep the flow.

TT, yeah, it's not a perfect color match obviously and it's the only panel without dirt on it. But I'm pretty happy considering.

I have been wondering about this business of painting cars with rustoleum. i have read all the articles on it ans wonder if it was sprayed with a hardener in it and very little trash what the end result would be. I hate wetsanding, hate buffing even more. That's the reason i am wondering. Also, do they make a clear finish for enamel? Never thought to look 'till now..

There is a reason I refer to this stuff as swingset paint. After a few months you can see it fade.

Recap, I resprayed my front bumper (which gets bumped constantly where I live when people attempt to parallel park) with Rustoleum (roller paint) but the rest of the car was single stage. You can see the difference after a few months. Car is parked outside all day.

I really hope that other guy didn't end up painting his Vette with it. I guess there is a reason they don't use this stuff on cars.

That other guy is the special forces cranker that ripped DeeVeeEight off. Maybe he was painting his weapon with Rustoleum?

now that you mention it, yes... that's the guy.....

there's another guy in CA who painted his C3 with yellow Rustoleum.

now, seriously: if it was as good as other single stage paint that's 10x the price.... wouldn't everybody use it ???

Yes, and it's still apparently in decent shape...some 3? years later....thread about that over 'there' some months ago.....

I took the cue and painted the motor home with it, white on the van cab/sides with black trim.....looks pretty damn decent....

:smash::thumbs:

You prob won't notice it fade. I only noticed it because it's contrasted by the single stage right next to it. It still looks pretty good on it's own.
